What Was on His Hand?

OK, so I am not the biggest baseball fan in the world, but I did catch a significant portion of Game 2 of the World series. For those of you who weren't watching, during the first inning it was reported that the Tigers' star pitcher Kenny Rogers had a suspicious substance on his pitching hand. Then after the first inning it was gone.

He pitched a great game that last 8 innings, but what was on his hand? To make matters worse, ESPN just showed closeup shots from previous games and sure enough that same mysterious substance was on his pitching hand, exact same spot and all. Roger's claims that it was just dirt and he didn't even notice it. The Cardinal's manager was made aware of it in the first inning, but didn't make a big deal out of it, despite the fact that Cardinals batters were complaining that the ball was doing funny things. The MLB rules state that any pitcher with a foreign substance on his person or in his possession while pitching is automatically ejected from the game and suspended for 10 more. Tough situation for sure. This could have all been cleared up if the umps (who were aware of the substance) had actually examined his hand instead of simply asking him to wash it off.

Keep it real,

Ben
